NEW: Notre Dame-Insper Joint Research Grant

Insper in Brazil and the University of Notre Dame (ND) announce the ND-Insper Joint Research Grant. The goal of this grant is to strengthen academic ties between the two institutions and to support research in keeping with the strategic interests of both universities.

Grant Project Requirements

  • Compliance approval is necessary at both institutions for all research projects. Studies involving data collection and human subjects in Brazil must undergo prior ethical review by an accredited Research Ethics Committee.
  • Faculty mobility is recommended for this grant program.

Funding & Awards
  • Joint awards up to a total of USD $30,000 (R$ 150.000) will be made for each joint research project, with each project investigator being funded (up to USD $15,000; R$ 75.000) by their respective institution.
  • The fund can finance up to two (2) projects, with a maximum budget of USD $30,000 (R$ 150.000) per proposal. The total available funding is USD $60,000 (R$ 300.000), with equal contributions from both universities.
  • Funding will be available for joint research projects for a duration of between 12 months and 24 months. Proposals for projects with a longer duration will not be accepted.
  • The total requested funds for awarded projects may be adjusted following budget review.
  • Unspent funds at the end of the award period will be returned to the awarding institution.
Eligibility

This call is open to teams composed of at least one principal investigator (PI) from each institution. There is no restriction on discipline. PLEASE NOTE: Insper’s academic units are Management and Economics, Law, and Engineering and Computer Science.

  • At Insper, the PI must be a full-time faculty member (“docente de dedicação exclusiva”).
  • At ND, the PI must be a regular faculty member.

Researchers from both institutions may only apply for one project, either as a principal investigator or a co-principal investigator.


Latin America Research Development Grant

Notre Dame Global is pleased to offer the Global Network Research Development Grants that link to the University’s global locations. It invites proposals that aim to deepen research/institutional connections between the global locations, institutions in their locale, and Notre Dame faculty.

Funding requests can be made up to $10,000, with additional funding available for ND Jerusalem.

The Latin America Research Development Grant offers travel support for faculty to bring to the University of Notre Dame either a leader with broad recognition or a research collaborator from Latin America, in one of two ways:

OPTION 1*

Inviting and hosting a leader of a center or organization with broad recognition in Latin America to visit Notre Dame
OPTION 2*

Supporting an existing faculty-to-faculty collaboration by inviting international collaborators in Latin America to campus in a way that promises to significantly advance, establish, and/or deepen a joint research project

*This grant can only be used to support travel coming to South Bend from Latin America.

Notre Dame-São Paulo State University Seed Grant Program

The University of Notre Dame du Lac (ND), USA, and São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil, are delighted to announce the ND-UNESP Seed Grant Program. Through this jointly funded, jointly advertised program, both institutions are inviting proposals for joint research projects with the potential to both achieve international recognition and to generate continued external research funds for both partners. Project selection for the Seed Grant Program will be competitive and made jointly by ND and UNESP.

Funding and Awards
  • Joint awards up to a total of $30,000 (R$150,000) will be made for each joint research project, with each project investigator being funded by their respective institution
  • It is expected to award up to 2 projects
  • The funding will be available for joint research projects of between 12 months and 24 months duration
  • The ND-UNESP Seed Grant projects can run anytime during the period from 1 June 2026 to 1 July 2028
  • Unspent funds at the end of the award period will be returned to the awarding institution
Eligibility
  • Applicants at both ND and UNESP must be regular full-time faculty.
  • Projects incorporating graduate research students are welcome.
  • While faculty at both institutions can apply for both the ND-UNESP Seed Grant Program and the ND-UNESP Travel Grant program, an award may only be made in one category.

Notre Dame-São Paulo State University Travel Grant

The University of Notre Dame du Lac (ND), USA, and São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil, are delighted to announce the ND-UNESP Travel Grant program. The goal of the program is to act as a catalyst for international research collaborations between ND and UNESP by funding faculty to explore, develop, or advance long-term research collaborations. Awards are to cover travel expenses for individual faculty at one institution to visit collaborators or potential collaborators at the other institution.

Funding
  • Funding requests can be made up to $5,000 and can be used to cover travel, visas, accommodation and meals.
  • Applicants may apply for both this ND-UNESP Travel Grant Program and for the ND-UNESP Seed Grant Program but may not receive an award in both.

  • Applicants at both UNESP and Notre Dame must be regular full-time faculty.
